Pregnancy Q & A

What are the stages of pregnancy?

Pregnancy has three stages:

First trimester (weeks 1-13)

You may not realize you're pregnant during this first stage when your baby is a tiny embryo. Or there might be early signs like your period being overdue, nausea, tender breasts, fatigue, and mood changes, and some women develop morning sickness.

Second trimester (weeks 14-27)

During the second trimester, the embryo becomes a recognizable fetus, and you start to develop a bump. Some women find their nausea improves, while for others, it persists, sometimes until the birth.

Third trimester (weeks 28-40)

In the third trimester, you develop a sizable baby bump, which can cause backache, leg swelling, and problems like GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).

Most women find out they're pregnant during the first or second trimesters. As soon as you discover you're pregnant, you should have your first visit with Dr. Phabby.

What happens at my first pregnancy appointment?

At your first appointment, Dr. Phabby calculates your due date and goes over important information you need to know, like taking a folic acid supplement. She also reviews your medical history and has a conversation with you about how you're feeling, any side effects, and any worries you may have.

She also administers tests for conditions like diabetes, kidney disease, and anemia, and infections such as HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis. Dr. Phabby checks to make sure you're up-to-date with immunizations against varicella (chickenpox) and rubella, weighs you, and measures your blood pressure and heart rate.

Next, Dr. Phabby performs an internal pelvic exam and takes cell samples to identify any STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) or HPV (human papillomavirus) infections. She also records your weight, blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate.

Phabulous Care Inc provides a comprehensive mobile service during pregnancy, so you can choose to have your routine appointments at home, at work, or in a hotel, whichever is most convenient for you.

What other pregnancy care will I need?

After your first appointment, you have regular meetings with Dr. Phabby so she can monitor you and your baby's progress. You can also see your baby using Phabulous Care Inc's portable ultrasound scanner.

As well as routine tests for gestational diabetes and other diseases that could affect your pregnancy, there are other tests for conditions like Down syndrome and genetic abnormalities that you may wish to have – particularly if you're at high risk.

Dr. Phabby can also help you stay healthy by eating a balanced diet, avoiding excessive weight gain, and managing problems like morning sickness and pregnancy aches and pains.
