Infertility Q & A

What is infertility?

Infertility simply means that you either struggle to get pregnant or some condition or structural issue prevents you from getting pregnant altogether. Most women aren’t aware of their infertility until they experience challenges with getting pregnant.

Infertility isn’t always on the part of the woman, however. The issue could take place at any point from sperm production to egg fertilization and beyond. The team at Phabulous Care Inc works with you and your partner to find the cause of your infertility.

In order to get an official infertility diagnosis, you must have had unprotected sexual intercourse for at least one year without a pregnancy, or have had multiple miscarriages during your attempts.

Since your chances of pregnancy generally decline with age, the team at Phabulous Care Inc may also treat you for infertility if you’ve been attempting to get pregnant for six months or longer and are over 35 years old.

Why do I have infertility?

There are numerous reasons why you and your partner might struggle to conceive. Men’s infertility might come from ejaculatory dysfunction, hormonal disorders, genetic disorders, or low sperm production.

In women, infertility can arise from the dysfunction of any of their reproductive organs. The team at Phabulous Care Inc can explore any of these possibilities:

  • Fallopian tube obstruction
  • Menopause
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Premature ovarian insufficiency
  • Malfunctioning hypothalamus or pituitary gland
  • Anatomical abnormalities of the uterus

Many of these common causes of infertility in women result in infertility because they reduce or stop ovulation. Ovulation is the time in your menstrual cycle when your ovary releases an egg into the corresponding fallopian tube, usually about 13-15 days before your menstrual period.

Is infertility treatable?

Fortunately, there are many ways to treat infertility on the part of you or your partner. After considering the specific cause, your age, the duration of your infertility, and any prior fertility treatments, the Phabulous Care Inc team may recommend:

Medications

Fertility medications for women can stimulate egg development or ovulation. Many of them act on your hormones to restore balance.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

IUI is a procedure that the Phabulous Care Inc team can perform to facilitate insemination. They place healthy sperm from your partner or a donor directly into the uterus around the time you ovulate. Your provider can coordinate this treatment with your fertility medications.

Surgery

Sometimes, structural issues like scar tissue, fibroids, or polyps contributing to infertility are treatable with surgery.

It might also help to stop smoking and drinking alcohol while you and your partner try to conceive, or to lose weight if you’re obese.

If you and your partner have been trying to get pregnant unsuccessfully, call Phabulous Care Inc or book an appointment online for infertility care today.
